What is your athletic background?
Always active, while working in Real Estate, I focused on golf and martial arts. (And gaining weight). Now an Ironman and regular swimmer/biker/runner.
When did you start with Final Kick Sports?
Dec. of 2008
What brought you here?
I was drawn here by running with several friends and then was led to purchase the store because I loved the atmosphere and wanted to work at something I loved to do. Which means it is really not like WORK.
What's your preferred training shoe?
I need a good neutral cushion shoe. I would prefer to run in something light and sexy, but alas I need the cushion of an Asics Nimbus or a Brooks Glycerin. I do like to do speed work in my Mizuno Ronins, though.
What's your favorite race, and do you have a story that goes with it?
My favorite race is IMUSA in Lake Placid, NY. I love that is in my home state in some of the most beautiful country and that it is a most challenging, but scenic course.
What's your favorite workout?
Currently I am biking quite a bit and enjoy going hard on the bike. It is a very satisfying workout and throw in a run off the bike and I feel like I can do just about anything. On the other hand, a cool morning run in the offseason through FLSP on Long Creek, without a watch, ipod, gps, etc.. is the bomb. Throw in a little snow to stifle the sounds and I am in a happy place.
What fuels your races?
Shrimp a la vodka at Aldo’s is a favorite. Although, recently I experimented with some sushi before a half marathon that was not an A race and wound up PR’ing. May have to try that again.
Do you have any furry/scaly/feathery companions?
Most of our customers have gotten to know our shop dog Lizzy. Even when it is not convenient to bring her in, she blocks the door and gives me that super sad face and she winds up getting her way. Seems to be a common trait of the women in my house.
Who's your running/biking/swimming inspiration?
Having come to the sport as a “mature” athlete, I am more inspired by the OLD guys and gals. Folks like Sister Madonna Buder, Lew Hollander, or even “The Man” Dave Scott who goes out and gets it done, even after the age of 40. Locally, I have a special regard for Mel Williams and Col. Chris Catoe. I can only hope to be fit and active as they are. Even my Dad has stayed active in sports into his 70’s
What's your other job?
I am Dawn’s happy husband of 22+ years, Gabrielle’s proud father and a sinner saved by grace!
