2010 Half Iron

Postby Anthony on Wed Sep 23, 2009 10:43 pm

I'm looking for a Half-Iron for next year. Eagleman this year was my first. Any suggestions? Preferably something in the mid-atlantic and in the Spring.

I know there is White Lake in May. Do folks like this race? What's up with the 2 different dates?

Any other options?

Thanks.

Anthony,
So many choices so little time...seriously, there are early spring half iron distance races all over, while I'm sure most don't have exact dates posted yet, by November or December they should, and there are several search engines you can use to find them. White lake was a good course...due to popularity, they held both the sprint and half two weekends in a row this year...it all really depends on what you want...those that are affiliated with the world championship series will have a lot of bang for some heavy buck, while there are other events that don't qualify you for the WC, are a bit bare bones but much cheaper and in my opinion just as well run with good courses. I personally was a little disaapointed at WL this past year, as I started in a later wave and happened upon a couple water stops without water...which I think is pretty inexcuseable in an out and back run...but overall the course was fair...very similar to our training grounds, and complete with a good headwind for some of the bike! Good luck finding a race! :D
I just spent 12 weeks on a bus with 23 girls all to end up with the Penthouse Pet...now who saw that coming??!! Bret Michaels

Anthony,
White Lake is definitely a good option. It's a flat, fast course but you may have to deal with some heat. For some reason that race is always hot. There is a huge demand for that race, hence the 2 race weekends. So if you want to register for this, I suggest checking the Setup Events site and finding out exactly when registration opens. Be ready to log on the minute it does.

Kinetic is another good option. It's up near Fredericksburg at Lake Ana. Another Setup Events race that tends to be well run. It is in mid May I believe, a couple of weeks after WL. A hillier course but probably won't be as hot. Demand isn't nearly as high for this one, I don't even know if it sells out.

Hope that helps.
